US shares higher at close of trade; Dow Jones up 0.70%

Investing.com - US equities were higher at the close of Tuesday, as gains in the Finance, Technology and Utilities sectors boosted.

At the close in New York Stock Exchange, the Dow Jones climbed 0.70%, the S&P 500 climbs 1.14%, NASDAQ Composite climbs 1.19%.

The leaders of growth among the components of the Dow Jones index at the end of today's trading were shares of Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC), which gained 1.46 points (3.02%), to close at 49.81. Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL) rose 2.83% or 3.37 points to end at 122.42. The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE: TRV) was up 2.81% or 3.64 points to close at 133.29.

The biggest losers were Salesforce.com Inc (NYSE: CRM), which fell 1.52% or 3.74 points to trade at 242.06 at the close. 3M Company (NYSE: MMM) gained 1.48% or 2.56 points to end at 170.17, while McDonald's Corporation (NYSE: MCD) was down 1.89 points (0.87 %) and ended trading at 215.55.

Among the growth leaders among the components of the S index&Kohls Corp (NYSE: KSS) rose 13.91% to 36.68 in today's P500, Arconic Corp (NYSE: ARNC) gained 8.91% to close at 29.96 and Nordstrom Inc (NYSE: JWN), which rose 6.29% to end at 27.55.

The biggest losers were IHS Markit Ltd (NYSE: INFO), which fell 5.56% to close at 93.93. Company S shares&P Global Inc (NYSE: SPGI) shed 5.01% to trade at 334.15. Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE: OXY) was down 3.74% to 15.17.

Auris Medical Holding Ltd (NASDAQ: EARS), which gained 376.58% to 5.290, and TDH Holdings Inc (NASDAQ: PETZ), gained 88.46%, were among the top gainers among the components of the NASDAQ Composite Index at the end of today's trading. to close at 2.450; and Second Sight Medical Products (NASDAQ: EYES), which up 53.81% to end at 1.50.

The biggest losers were Titan Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ: TTNP), which fell 27.84% to close at 3.6800. Minerva Neurosciences Inc (NASDAQ: NERV) shed 24.68% to end the session at 2.93. Tuniu Corp (NASDAQ: TOUR) is down 24.11% to 2.140.

On the New York Stock Exchange, the number of securities that rose in price (2,082) exceeded the number of securities that closed in the red (820), while the quotations of 83 shares remained practically unchanged. On the NASDAQ stock exchange, 1618 companies rose in price, 1211 declined, and 56 remained at the level of the previous close.

The volatility index CBOE Volatility Index, which is formed based on the indicators of trading options on S&P 500 up 0.92% to 20.76.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 2.13% or 37.85 to $ 1,818.75 a troy ounce. In other commodities, WTI crude oil futures for January delivery fell 1.68%, or 0.76, to $ 44.58 a barrel. Futures contracts for Brent oil for February delivery fell 1.02% or 0.49 to trade at $ 47.39 a barrel.

Meanwhile, on the Forex market, the EUR / USD pair rose 1.04% to 1.2051, while the USD / JPY rose 0.11% to hit 104.39..

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.63% at 91.282.
